Not Sure Which Class is Right for You?

Our experienced instructors will help you find the perfect Pilates program based on your goals, experience level, and lifestyle needs.

A plain answer, plus what to expect

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that builds core strength, flexibility, and posture through controlled, precise movements โ€” on a mat or on a spring-resistance machine called a reformer. Because it strengthens without straining joints, it's used for everything from athletic training to back-pain rehabilitation.

Is it good for back pain?

Often, yes. Pilates strengthens the deep core muscles that support the spine, and our instructors are experienced at adapting exercises for clients working around pain or old injuries. Check with your doctor first if you have an acute injury.

Your first class

Wear comfortable, fitted clothing and grip socks. Arrive 10 minutes early; your instructor will set up your reformer and guide you through every movement. No experience needed.

Strength without strain โ€” that's the whole idea.

Back and Core Support

Pilates builds the deep core muscles that support your spine. Instructors adapt exercises for clients working around pain or old injuries โ€” check with your doctor first if you have an acute injury.

Better Posture

Controlled, precise movement strengthens the muscles that hold you upright, so the hours you spend at a desk take less of a toll on your back and shoulders.

Mobility and Flexibility

Low-impact, full-range movement helps you move more easily day to day โ€” useful for beginners, seniors, and athletes adding cross-training alike.

Mind-Body Connection

Develop body awareness, concentration, and mental clarity through breath-coordinated movement. Excellent for stress relief and mental health.

Injury Prevention

Low-impact training that strengthens supporting muscles and improves movement patterns. Ideal for injury rehabilitation and prevention.

Holistic Wellness

Beyond physical benefits, experience improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and enhanced overall quality of life through regular practice.

Everything you need to know about Pilates on the Westside

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Our beginner-friendly reformer classes are designed for newcomers in Mar Vista and throughout the Westside. We start with fundamentals and offer modifications so you can work at your pace in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Our certified Pilates instructors are trained to help every student succeed, regardless of fitness level.
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely - think yoga pants or leggings with a fitted top. Avoid loose clothing that might get in the way during exercises. We require grip socks for safety and stability. If you don't have grip socks, they are available for purchase at the studio. All props and equipment are provided by the studio.
Pilates can be incredibly beneficial for those with back pain or recovering from injuries, but we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider first. Our trauma-informed Pilates instructors are trained in modifications and can work with you to ensure safe, therapeutic movement. We also offer specialized Restorative Pilates classes focused on rehabilitation and gentle strengthening for clients throughout Santa Monica, Venice Beach, and Culver City.
We recommend 2-3 sessions per week for optimal results. You'll start feeling stronger and more centered after just a few classes, with noticeable physical changes typically appearing after 4-6 weeks of consistent practice. Remember, Joseph Pilates said, 'In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a whole new body.'
Pilates is a mind-body method that focuses on controlled, precise movements combined with specific breathing patterns. Unlike traditional workouts, Pilates emphasizes quality over quantity, targeting deep core muscles while improving posture, balance, and flexibility simultaneously. It's low-impact yet highly effective for building functional strength.
Yes! Pilates is excellent during pregnancy when practiced safely with proper modifications. Our instructors are trained in prenatal adaptations and can guide you through exercises that support your changing body, strengthen your core, and prepare you for childbirth. Always get clearance from your doctor first, and let us know you're expecting so we can provide appropriate modifications.
